Who we are

This website is operated by Film Me Pty Ltd (ABN 57 612 132 395) (“we”), trading as Rupert Chesman. We are based in Sydney, Australia. The same company runs Film Me, Rupert’s video post-production business.

This policy explains how we handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). It covers this website, including the China Edition pages, our free courses and resources, the live online course, and the workshops, keynotes and executive sessions we run for organisations.

What we collect

Contact form. When you use the contact form, we receive your name, email address, the topic you choose and your message. We also receive whatever you send us by email or phone.

Mailing list. If you join the mailing list or a course waitlist, we receive your email address.

Live course. If you enrol in the live online course, we receive your name, email address and billing details. Card payments are handled by our payment provider, and we never see or store your full card number.

Organisations we train. Names, job titles, business contact details and billing details of the people we work with. For workshops, the organisation may also give us participants’ names and work email addresses, so we can send joining details, materials and certificates.

In the room. During live sessions we may see the questions you ask and the work you share in exercises. We use this only to run the session. We do not record sessions unless everyone has been told first.

Website. This website uses Google Analytics, which sets cookies, to count visits and see which pages are useful. The China Edition pages do not use Google Analytics. Like all web hosts, our host keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses, browser types and the pages requested, for security and to keep the site running.

What stays on your device

The course dashboards, lesson progress, exercise answers and notes on this site are saved in your own browser, using its local storage. They are not sent to us, and we cannot see them. You can clear them at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser.

No account is needed to use the free courses and resources.

How we use it

We use personal information to:

• reply to your message and prepare a quote or proposal
• send course updates and, if you have joined the mailing list, news about new courses and resources
• run the live course, workshops, keynotes and executive sessions, and issue certificates
• invoice you and keep business, tax and accounting records
• understand which pages are useful, and keep the website secure and working
• meet our legal obligations

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for anyone else’s marketing. Every mailing-list email has an unsubscribe link.

AI tools and your information

Rupert uses AI tools to help prepare course material, research and admin. A person checks the results. When we use AI tools on information you have given us, such as a brief or the notes from a discovery call, we use them on business terms that do not use your information to train models. Some of these tools process data on servers outside Australia.

In workshops, participants use AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot or, in the China Edition, Doubao, DeepSeek, Qwen and Kimi, under their own or their organisation’s accounts. Those services handle what you type under their own terms. We teach people not to put confidential or personal information into AI tools unless their organisation has approved it.

If your organisation restricts which tools may be used, or has an AI policy, tell us at the start and we will run the session within it.

Who we share it with

We share personal information only when we need to, with:

• Formspree, which receives the contact, mailing-list and waitlist forms on this site
• Google, which provides Google Analytics on the English pages
• our web host, which runs this website
• our email provider and the business cloud services we use for files and documents
• our payment provider, accountant and bank
• the organisation that booked a workshop, which may receive attendance and completion records for its own people
• venues, event organisers or co-facilitators, where a session needs them
• government agencies or others, where the law requires or allows it

Overseas disclosure

Some of these providers store or process information outside Australia, including in the United States and Europe. Before we disclose personal information overseas, we take reasonable steps to make sure it will be handled in a way that is consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles.

China Edition. The China Edition pages are built to work in mainland China without loading anything from Google or other services blocked there. Information sent through them is handled under this policy and stored outside mainland China. If your organisation needs us to work within China’s Personal Information Protection Law (PIPL) or its own data rules, tell us at the start.

Fonts, scripts and embedded video

Most pages load fonts from Google Fonts and some scripts from public content networks (unpkg, cdnjs and the Tailwind CDN). This means those services can see your IP address when the page loads. The China Edition pages load their fonts and files from this website instead.

Videos on this site are hosted by YouTube. Where we can, they play in YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode, and some players load only when you press play. When a video plays, YouTube may set cookies and collect data under its own privacy policy. Preview images may load from YouTube’s image servers, so YouTube can see your IP address when the page loads.

Storage, security and how long we keep it

Enquiries. If an enquiry does not lead to work together, we keep it for up to two years and then delete it.

Mailing list. We keep your email address until you unsubscribe.

Course and workshop records. We keep enrolment, attendance and certificate records for up to five years, so we can confirm completion if you or your organisation asks.

Business records. We keep invoices and financial records for as long as tax law requires, generally at least five years.

Security. Only the people who need it can access your information. We use reputable providers with encryption in transit, and we keep our own devices and accounts secured.

If something goes wrong. If we have a data breach, we will tell you promptly. Where it is likely to cause serious harm, we will follow the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme and notify the people affected and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you. Email ru@rupertchesman.com or use the contact form. We will respond within 30 days, and we may need to confirm your identity first. If we cannot do what you ask, we will explain why.

You can also use the site without giving us any personal information, and you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings.

Young people

Our courses and training are designed for adults and professionals. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you think a child has sent us their details, please tell us and we will delete them.

Complaints

If you think we have mishandled your personal information, please tell us first. We aim to resolve complaints within 30 days.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
