Key Insight
Temp tracks are a communication tool, not a replacement for composers. The real danger in film scoring is what the industry calls "temp love" — when a director lives with a temp track for so long during the edit that they become emotionally attached to it. When the composer delivers an original score that sounds different, the director rejects it, not because it is worse, but because it is not the temp. AI-generated temp tracks amplify this risk because they can sound remarkably close to finished music. Use them to articulate what you want — the energy, the pacing, the emotional arc — then hand that articulation to a composer as a brief, not as a target to copy. The composer's job is to create something better than your temp, but they can only do that if you treat the temp as a starting point for a conversation rather than a destination.
