1.2 Banking & Taxes with Claude and QuickBooks · Lesson 2 of 6

Method 1 — The QuickBooks MCP Connector

Plug Claude straight into your QuickBooks data — ask in plain English, get real reports back in seconds.

The big idea

The QuickBooks MCP connector is the fast way in. You authorise it once (a ‘Connect to QuickBooks’ allow-access step), and from then on Claude can read your books and take specific actions through the API — no browser, no clicking. Because it's API-based, it returns a Profit & Loss, a balance sheet or your aged receivables in seconds, which is exactly why it's the part we demo live.

Key insight: Use the connector for everything it covers — it's fast, structured and safe. Only fall back to Claude in Chrome (next lesson) for the things the connector can't reach.

What you'll see on screen

Authorising the connector once, then Claude pulling a live P&L, creating an invoice, and listing aged receivables — all through the API.

Everything the connector can do

The full catalogue, grouped — plus what it can't do, and scheduled tasks. Tap to expand.

Key points to remember

Authorise once; then Claude reads & acts via the API in seconds.
Reports, invoicing, customers/products, and read-only payroll are all covered.
Connector-based Scheduled Tasks run unattended — no login needed each time.
It can't reconcile, clear the bank feed, or lodge a BAS — that's Method 2.
