Safe vs Prohibited Tasks at OFFICIAL

A practical green-light / red-light list for everyday work.

Scenarios~12 min

The big idea

Knowing the rule is one thing; recognising it in your actual work is another. This lesson gives concrete examples. Green-light tasks (โœ…, ideally via an approved tool): drafting unclassified comms, summarising public documents, reviewing non-capability code, brainstorming unclassified structures, translating public foreign-language news. Red-light tasks (โŒ, never public AI): anything OFFICIAL: Sensitive+, personnel or clearance data, contract/tender/pricing, capability information, applicant personal data, and internal meeting transcripts.

Key insight: ‘Public and unclassified’ is the test for a green light. The moment a task touches sensitive, personal, commercial or capability information, it leaves public AI entirely.

Key points to remember

Green light = public, unclassified, non-capability โ€” ideally via an approved tool.
Red light = sensitive, personal, commercial, capability, transcripts.
If a task could touch any red-light category, don't use public AI.
