1.3 Your First Hour with Claude · Lesson 3 of 6

Claude Makes Things: Artifacts

Watch Claude build a real, interactive app — live, and changeable on request.

The big idea

This is the first “wow.” Claude can produce artifacts — self-contained interactive pages and mini-apps you can use, filter, and re-open. This is where beginners realise Claude is a maker, not just a talker. Our live example is a real “School Holiday Activities” planner: a rich, filterable board of family activities.

Key insight: An artifact is a working app — the buttons, filters and views all function. Claude builds it from messy real-world inputs, in front of you.

What you'll see on screen

A live holiday-activities planner Claude built — the main board, an About panel, a Filters panel, and a day-by-day calendar view. Use the thumbnails to switch.

Key points to remember

An artifact is an interactive app/page Claude builds for you.
Everything in it works — buttons, filters, views.
You can ask Claude to tweak it live.
It’s relatable: a real family planning real school holidays.
