1.3 Module 1 · The New Claude

Setup & Your Real Task

Get the right Claude open, learn where everything lives, and name one real, tedious task you'll carry through the entire course — so every new feature is felt as an upgrade to something you already care about.

Where everything lives

A 90-second tour. We name these now and use them later.

The one habit to build now: if the task involves a thing, give Claude the thing. Attach the file, paste the content. The number-one beginner mistake is forgetting the attachment.

Interactive: your setup checklist

Tick these off as you go — your progress is saved on this device. A couple are optional, but the more you set up, the more of the course you can do hands-on.

Interactive: name your task

Pick the kind of tedious, multi-step job you'd most like off your plate. This becomes "your task" — referenced in every module from here on.

Your hands-on exercise

Open a new chat. In one message, tell Claude what you want, give it any document it needs, and ask for a first pass. Don't polish the wording — we fix that in Module 2. You already got something usable from a rough ask: that's the floor. The whole course raises the ceiling — and by the end, Claude will be doing this task, not just helping with it.

Key takeaway

You've done real work with Claude in one message. Next we make it reliable, make it sound like you, and then hand the whole job over. That's Module 2.
