Tokens, Context Windows & Temperature
Three concepts that control how AI models behave, how much they cost, and how creative or focused their output is.
Temperature Slider Demo
Temperature controls how "random" the model's choices are. Low = focused and predictable. High = creative and unpredictable. Drag the slider and see how the same prompt produces different styles of output.
When to use what: Use low temperature (0.0–0.3) for factual tasks, code, and data extraction. Use medium (0.5–0.8) for writing and general conversation. Use high (1.0+) for brainstorming, creative writing, and generating diverse ideas.
Context Window Comparator
The context window is the model's "memory" — how much text it can consider at once. Bigger windows let you paste entire documents. Here's how China's leading models compare:
Practical tip: In 2026, the leading Chinese models (DeepSeek V4, Qwen3.8-Max, Kimi K3 and GLM-5.3) all offer context windows of about 1 million tokens. That is roughly 750,000 English words, or well over a million Chinese characters. But bigger doesn't always mean better: models can still lose focus in very long contexts. Put the most critical content at the beginning or end of your prompt.
Token Cost Calculator
Estimate how much your AI usage would cost through each model's API, in RMB. This is developer pricing: the consumer apps are free to start, and Doubao's paid Standard plan is RMB 68 a month.
Bottom line: For most individuals, the free apps (or a plan such as Doubao's ¥68 Standard tier) are better value than paying per token. API pricing matters for businesses building products on AI, or power users who process thousands of documents. Prices are the providers' published international API rates in US dollars (September–October 2026), converted at the rate you enter, so treat them as estimates. Domestic RMB price lists can differ, and DeepSeek charges half price off-peak.
